The intentions I have for this blog is to convey to the next generation of vascular surgeons and those interested to start a career in this field, the tips and tricks that I learned during my years of formation and experience from various jobs in Ecuador, Argentina (by the hand of my mentors and great friend Miguel Angel Peirano,MBChB, MD, Chief of Division Cardiovascular Surgery Department, Jose Maria Ramos Mejia Hospital), in Spain and currently in the UK.
In this blog, you will find relevant clinical cases which involve contemporary and modern procedures, in addition to comments, opinions, clear concepts and references to relevant articles.
I am absolutely convinced of the importance and the responsibility leading vascular surgeons have, to share their experiences and their knowledge to help future vascular surgeon during their formation.
"Without good vascular training today there will be no new Vascular Surgeons tomorrow".
Although modern procedures have come to stay as the new treatment options, open vascular surgery continues and will continue to be the most durable treatment option for the vast majority of vascular problems, for this reason, its essential to have a perfect understanding of basic principles; principles that have governed for more than 100 years in vascular surgery, as established by Alexi Carrel (a French surgeon and biologist at the University of Lyon) and Charles Claude Guthrie (an American physiologist graduated from the University of Missouri).
"The one who does not remember history is bound to live through it again", different authors.
The Vascular Surgeon does not work alone, we all receive an important support from both nurses and scrub nurses, in determined times the demands to provide better care to our patients or to carry out successful surgical procedures, generates high stress within these excellent professionals. I firmly believe in the vascular training of our closest collaborators from the perspective of both vascular surgeons / endovascular and vascular nurses/scrubs, by doing this we will achieve an efficient and coordinated teamwork allowing us to be able to continue providing our patients with efficient and above all safe care.
I trust you enjoy this blog and I hope you will find within another tool to help you during your training. It will be a pleasure for me to answer your questions, concerns, comments, and to be able to contribute a little to your training.
